Anheuser-Busch Named January Innovation Rocks! Award Winner
Anheuser-Busch has been named the Innovation Rocks! Award winner by the New Hampshire Business Resource Center for the month of January.
Anheuser-Buschs Merrimack brewery was recognized for its use of a bio-gas at its Bio-Energy Recovery System resulting in as much as $1M in savings this year, about 10 percent to 15 percent of its total bill.
Each day, the system treats 1M-1.5M gallons of wastewater that comes from the brewery. In a multi-stage process, this liquid is pushed through giant strainers that eliminate items such as hop leaves before being transferred to 320,0000-gallon tanks for further neutralization. The water then ends up in reactors where anaerobic sludge granules feed on the organic material and break it down into bio-gas which is then piped back into the brewery for use in firing up the boilers used to make beer.
This process is groundbreaking and has resulted in cost savings not only to Anheuser-Busch but to the town of Merrimack as well, said Business Resource Center Director Roy Duddy. Rather than relying on the Towns Public Works Department to treat all of its wastewater, Anheuser-Busch has developed a process which works to the benefit of everyone.
