Upcoming NFIP Training Opportunities

  • Upcoming online training: Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation is offering a free online training for local officials on Substantial Improvement and Substantial Damage Determinations. Space is still available for two of the course offerings on Wednesday, May 31st from 10:00 to 11:30am and Thursday, June 1st from 9:00 to 10:30am. There will be 1 CEU for CFMs. View the event flyer for additional information and how to register.
  • Upcoming workshop: Introduction to the Community Rating System (CRS). This two-day workshop will cover each series that comprises the Community Rating System (CRS). CRS recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum NFIP standards. Current CFMs are eligible for 12 CECs for this class. This workshop will be held on June 6 & 7, 2023 from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm at City Hall, 1st Floor, Council Chambers, 51 N. Park Street, Lebanon, NH 03766. Registration is now available.   • Upcoming webinar: Floodplain Management Basics for Community Officials. This webinar will provide basic information and guidance about the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), FEMA flood maps and studies, community floodplain regulations, and the responsibilities of a NFIP participating community to remain in good standing in the program. This webinar will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 10:00-11:30AM. Registration is now available.

Video Series: Floodplain Management Learning for Community Officials On Demand (FLOOD)

This new series of training videos is being developed by OPD for NH community officials focusing on key National Flood Insurance Program topics. Each video in the series is about 30 minutes long.

Free Online NFIP and Community Rating System Training Webinars

Free online webinars are available through FEMA's contractor, STARR about various aspects of the NFIP including the Community Rating System. Many of the courses are eligible for CEC credits for Certified Floodplain Managers (CFM).

Online Course: NFIP 101 – Introduction to Floodplain Management

This free course is intended for those new to floodplain management and provides local officials with the knowledge and skills to administer and enforce floodplain management regulations.

Free Online NFIP Self-Study Training Courses in Basic and Advanced Flood Insurance Topics

Mostly Free Onsite Floodplain Management and Emergency Management Courses

  • Floodplain Management and Emergency Management Courses are offered by FEMA at the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland. All courses are free to State and Local personnel, including a reimbursement for your travel. Some courses that are offered include E273 "Managing Floodplain Development Through the NFIP", E278 "Community Rating System", and E194 "Advanced Floodplain Management Concepts." If you are interested in taking a course, please contact OPD's Floodplain Management Staff.
