For the third consecutive year, New Hampshire exports set a record high, topping $7.6 billion in 2023, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, while nationally, the export of U.S. goods was down 2.2 percent.
“New Hampshire exports have set records each year since 2020, and since 2016, that value has increased 85 percent,” said Commissioner Taylor Caswell of the Department of Business and Economic Affairs (BEA). “This is a testament to the vibrant state economy and our success in finding global markets for New Hampshire-made products.”
Canada continued to be the top export destination for New Hampshire goods, worth $1.4 billion last year, more than 25 percent over 2022. Germany was again the second leading market, with a value of $1.3 billion, and Mexico held its third place, with exports valued at $699 million, up over 26 percent from 2023.
For the first time since 2019, aircraft and aircraft parts returned as the top export sector from New Hampshire in 2023 and were worth $1.7 billion, up from $1.3 billion in 2022. Canada and Germany were the top markets for these parts with a combined value of $1.4 billion.
The demand for electrical machinery dropped in 2023, putting the value at $1.6 billion, 4.3 percent less than 2022. Pharmaceutical exports round out the top sectors, with a value of $697 million.
BEA’s Office of International Commerce assists New Hampshire businesses of all sizes seeking to enter the global marketplace, or to expand their overseas customers.
